In the 20th century, bags became increasingly practical as more women ventured out in the labor market. There came more variety, such as the elegant evening reticule, the workplace briefcase, a bag for afternoon strolls, and more to suit different occasions!
Rise of Vanity
Fashion-consciousness was buzzing in the 1900’s. Moviestar influence brought with them popularity of other items like cigarettes and make-up and the ‘vanity-case’ with multiple compartments for the other items became fashionable in the 1920s. In the 1930s the ‘minaudière’ was the especially elegant bag. Bags made of metal, silver or gold included, as well as synthetic materials with strass crystal ornaments were fashionable at that time.
